Had a great run this morning.  I did a real easy 4 miles w/ 5 striders and then did a progressive tempo run.  It felt pretty darn easy, but I'm not really trying to get workouts in right now. Just wanted to spin the legs and get a harder effort in.  It was fun though.

Then I did the last 4 miles  @ (6:00, 5:56, 5:52, 5:49).  I lost a lot of water!

Ran to work this morning again.  It's always a slow start, but I like the cold crisp air and running in the dark.  It's also a great way to start the day.  I felt pretty good too after I warmed up.  Easy pace again.

After work today I met Wes Tibbetts again and we ran the trails from Service.  Beautiful day and I feel lucky to be a runner.  Easy pace.

Rest Day

I decided to run the marathon tomorrow during my 10-6 shift at Skinny Raven.  I was able to foam roll and stretch good and my knee felt really good.

8/16

Another easy 6 miles of recovery.  I ran on the treadmill to force myself to run at recovery pace and also I wanted to keep an eye on me knee and be close to home it I need to stop.

Easy 6 miles today after 1st day back to work "officially" at south.  I kept it real easy and my knee pain is still there, but not terribly bad?  Hope it leaves soon.

8/14
13+ miles

Ran my Boston prep route with an extra loop.  Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 5:52 pace.  My last 6 miles were all sub 6 pace.  Averaged 6:28 pace for entire run.  Felt pretty good and effortless after I warmed up some.
My left knee was still bothering me for the first 3+ miles, but then it went away.  Gonna keep icing it and hopefully the pain will go away.

8/13
10 miles (6 x 800m @ 5K pace w/ 90 sec rest)

I'm still experiencing some pain in my left knee.  It can be sharp at times, but it doesn't get worse when I run. Once I started my 800's I didn't feel it at all, but it's there and I need to keep a special eye on it.

Workout went well today.  I did my 800's between Huffman and Dearmoun and just used my GPS.  I felt pretty good and it was nice to turn over a little.  Here it is:

3 mile warm-up with striders
6 x 800m w/ 90 sec rest ( I averaged about 2:32 per 800).
4 mile cool down (general aerobic pace and last mile was a 6:12)

8/12

Easy recovery miles to Huffman and back, but experiencing some pain in my left knee cap.  Only when bent.  Almost like a burning sensation.  I don't feel anything when I touch it though.  I'll keep an eye on it.

Easy 5 miles of recovery in the rain in the afternoon.

I wanted to throw in a workout today because it feels so long since I've done anything faster because of Mayors Marathon and Crow Pass.  I ran to Huffman and did my tempo between Huffman and Dearmoun.  I felt okay.  I never felt like I was rolling but I'll take it today.

3 mile warm-up w/ 5 stirders

Jay and I ran very very very easy to Rabbit Lakes. We took a nice dip in the lake too.  The water felt great on the beat up legs.  Another beautiful day too.  Beautiful scenery up there.

7/27
22 miles "Crow Pass- 3:56:55"

Had a great day running crow pass today.  Never pushed myself, but it was still a good effort and tired when I was done.  Ran the whole race with my buddy Jay from California.  I forgot how almost the entire race is very technical and not much running where you can just extend your stride.  I fell at least 7-8 times, fell in the river crossing, and got stung by 5 times by bees.  Great day!

7/26
5 miles

Ran an easy 5 miles on the turnagain arm trail.  Kept it easy after our Lost Lake run yesterday and since we will be running Crow Pass tomorrow.

7/25
15+ miles "Lost Lake"

Had a great day running on my favorite trail in Alaska.  My buddy Jay is up for a week to run crow pass on saturday, so hopefully I'll be running some good trails this week.   It was just us today, so we had one car.  We dropped the Car off at the finish and tried hitchhiking to the start at Primose Lake for 1.5hrs.  NO LUCK!!!!! So we jogged back to my car and luckily we found someone to drive it to the start for us.  So we ran the race course backwards. Beautiful day though.  We didn't plan for the delayed start and we both kind of bonked towards the end.  Great day though!!!!

7/24
10 miles

Another shirtless, hot, and sunny day.  This summer is amazing.  Ran my south loop with extra loop.  Started at 7:15 pace and progressed down to 6:05 pace.  Averaged 6:32 pace for entire run.  Felt pretty good running, but my right hip is acting up.  Just kind of a dull pain.  I've experienced this pain before and it usually goes away if I stretch more.

7/23
10 miles (4 @ Tempo)

My first real workout since my marathon a month ago.  Averaged about 5:40 pace for the 4 miles, so kept it on the easier side of tempo for sure.  Nice to get the legs turning for an extended period of time.  Felt pretty good.  Warm and sunny out too.

Worked at the Her/Tern Half Marathon today.  Set up and took down water stations, etc...  Beautiful and sunny day for the event.  I ended up not eating all day long, so after work I had to make a sandwich and take a couple hours to wait until I ran.  I didn't start running till 6pm and I was tired.  Still sunny and warm out too.

Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 6:10 pace for the last few miles.  Averaged 6:38 for entire run.  I didn't really feel that good today.  I believe because it was towards the end of day and I didn't eat well or get much sleep the night before.  Oh well, I got it done.  Gonna sleep good tonight.

7/20
6 miles

Easy 6 miles with J Ross after work from the store.  Another nice sunny day.  Felt pretty good, just need to start foam rolling and stretching better before it catches up to me.

7/19
11 miles

Ran before work today. It feels so good to have it out of the way.  Ran my south loop and added on.  Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 6:10 pace.  6:42 average for entire run.  Felt really good today.  Sun was out, but still cool in the morning.

Easy pace after work today.  Another warm and sunny day.  Legs still tired, but kept it easy.  Ran to Huffman and back.

7/12

Ran my south loop with a little extra in the beautiful warm sun today.  I started off really easy at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 6:05 pace for the last couple miles.  Felt pretty darn good after I warmed up for a couple miles.

7/11
6 miles

Another sunny day!  After work I just kept it easy to Huffman and back.  Tried keeping it easy, but still ran a 6:45 average pace.  I believe for true recovery it needs to be a bit slower. Legs felt tired again too.

7/10
12 miles

Nice and sunny day today.  Ran my Boston prep route and averaged about 6:30 pace. Started at 7:15 pace and progressed down to sub 6.  Legs felt tired.  I'm gonna take tomorrow off or make sure it's super easy.

Easy recovery pace since I ran Lost Lake yesterday.  It was nice to get outside on the 4th and run a little.  Felt good, but legs tired.

7/3
15 miles "Lost Lake"

Drove 2 hours to seward.  Ran for 2 hours on the Lost Lake Trail. Drove 2 hours home.  It may seem like a long way to drive to run, but it's my favorite run in all of Alaska.  Took it easy, but was still tired on the way down.  I could've pushed it more, but I want to recover from this marathon, so it was smart not too.

7/2

Ran an easy 57 minutes in the trails by Service with Jerry Ross, Harlow Robinson, and Patrick Conway.  We ran easy, but it was fun to get on the trails again.

Nice and cool overcast day.  Perfect for running.  I felt the best I have all week, but legs still tired.  I probably ran a little too fast, but wanted to turn the legs a little instead of just slugging along.  Averaged 6:48 pace, but ran a 6:10 last mile.  I'm gonna take it easy again next week, but plan on running Lost Lake easy on Wednesday.

6/29
6 miles

My back was super tight this morning and during my run.  I think I slept on my stomach too long.  It got a little better as the run went along. Kept it super easy again.  Wasn't the best run because of my back.

6/28
5 miles

Ran with a big group today from the Skinny Mini Store.  I actually just ran with Jerry and Ryan Beckett because we were keeping it real easy after the marathon still.  It was nice to see a group of motivated athletes.  Looks like we are in the process of getting an advanced group of runners together and do some races outside of the AK. It'll be nice to do some long runs in a group format as well as some track workouts too.

6/27
5 miles

Easy recovery.  Nice to get outside in this sun and burn some energy.  I did feel better than yesterday, but legs still dead!

6/26
4 miles

Super easy pace today.  I've been walking and it's felt good to get the legs moving, but I really wanted to try and run slow today.  Not much energy in the legs, but it felt good to run for 30 minutes and get the heart rate up.

Ran an easy 30 minute shake out run.  First overcast day I've seen in the past 3 weeks.  Nice and cool outside and I'd be very happy if tomorrow was the same weather.  I felt great today and I know I'm ready to roll tomorrow!  Just need to stick to my plan and be tough.

6/20
6 miles w/ 6 x 100m striders

Ran to Huffman and back and did some striders.  Another beautiful and sunny day.

6/19
Off

First real day of no running in the past 135 days.  I've never ran this day while doing Boston because it's a travel day, so I'm gonna stick to that. I did go for a 30 minute walk though.

6/18
8 miles (2@ MP) HOT!!

Ran at 2pm and it was 84 degrees out and no clouds.  I did my Marathon pace between Huffman and Dearmoun and ran a little too fast at 5:42 pace.  It wasn't really comfortable but I'm going to chalk that up to the Heat.  It'll be a lot cooler on saturday at 8am plus the weather is suppose to drop a little.

6/17

6/15
13 miles

Ran my boston prep route this morning.  Started at 7:20 pace and progressed down to 5:45 pace toward the end.  Average 6:27 pace for the run.  I felt great and I'm as ready as I'm going to be for next saturday!!! Just need to be careful about my diet and sleep and get to the line feeling good!!!!!!

6/14
6 miles- recovery

Beautiful and sunny out again today.  It's unbelievable the weather we've been having.  Ran an easy 6 miles at recovery pace, but my right hip has been bothering me when I start out.  Pretty painful actually today. Need to keep an eye on that for sure.

6/13
10 miles ( 3 x 1 mile @ 5K pace w/ 2 min rest)

I ran up to Hanshew's track today to do this workout.  I really wanted to do it on a track, so I didn't have to worry about traffic and see what I could do on a flat surface.  The first one felt the easiest and I really had to work the last 2.  Probably a little faster than 5K pace.  I would say longer 5K work is my least favorite workouts.  Anything over 800's I don't like. Lol

3 mile warm-up w/ 6 striders
3 x 1 mile (4:57, 4:58, 4:58)
4 miles of general aerobic/cool down

6/12
6 miles- recovery

Kept it super easy again.  I can't believe the weather we have been having. We really appreciate it more after the past 2 winters!  Gonna try not to eat so much during this taper. I want to keep my weight down while I'm not running as much.

6/11
10 miles (8 x 100m striders)

We are having some great weather lately!!!!  Ran my south loop and threw some striders in towards the end. Feeling great!  General Aerobic pace and I was running 6:15-20 pace with no effort.

6/10
6 miles- recovery

Another beautiful sunny day!  Kept it easy and I felt really good.

6/9
17 miles

Ran with Jerry Ross on the Mayors Marathon course.  It was nice to get a picture of the tank trail area.  I forgot how rocky some of that section is.  I'll have to make sure to pick a line and try not to waste a lot of energy through that section.  We ran basically 6:30 pace through the trails and then the last 5 miles I ran sub 6 pace and it felt pretty easy.  My last mile was around 5:40 pace.  Now I just need to get to the line feeling rested and healthy.  It's been a pretty good marathon build-up for this one.  I'm excited.

6/8
10 miles (5 @ Tempo)

Felt pretty good today.  I ran to Huffman and did my tempo between Huffman and Dearmoun back and forth and my last mile was gradually uphill from Huffman to O'Malley.  Here it is:

3 mile warm-up w/ striders
5 miles @ Tempo (5:21, 5:32, 5:29, 5:32, 5:32)
2 mile cool down

I really like doing this on the roads instead of the track.  It gives me an opportunity to run up and down hills while running at tempo pace.  Today I didn't even keep track of my mile splits just went off of effort and then looked at my Garmin after my workout.

6/7
14 miles (8am/6pm)

Both runs were easy pace and it was very hard to keep it easy because I felt really good.  Finally back in Alaska where the running temps are perfect!!!!!

6/6
7 miles (6 x 100m striders)

Had a great time at the Mumford and Sons concert last night.  Last run here in the desert, but I still ran up at the Club house because I slept in a little do to the late night.  Felt really good though running at recovery pace with some striders.  Looking forward to running in Anchorage temps tomorrow.

6/5
14 miles

I woke up at 5:15, because I did not want to run in the heat and I really wanted to run outside.  I was out the door before 6am and it felt pretty good outside.  It took me about a mile to get warmed up, but I felt good this run. Maybe I'm getting a little acclimated to this heat.  Started off easy and kept progressing.  My last couple miles were around 5:40- 5:45 pace.  Nice to have it done early in the morning.

6/4
14 miles (10am with 8x100m striders/4pm)

Ran both of my runs today at the club house.  In the morning I ran at general aerobic pace and did some striders towards the end.  I felt pretty good.  Super easy recovery in the afternoon.

6/3
12 miles (7am/5pm)

Both runs were easy recovery pace.  Decided to sleep in a little, so I did both runs at the club house on the treadmill to avoid the 109 degree temps here in Phoenix.  Legs a little sore from yesterday's long run.  I think it has to do more with the longer downhills affecting the quads, which is actually good for my training.

May 27th- June 2nd "Week #15"

Mileage for the Year 2013
1,582 miles

Mileage for the week 5/27- 6/2
101 miles

6/2
22 miles

I woke up at 5:15am and was out the door around 6am to try and beat the heat of Mesa, AZ.  It wasn't too bad the first hour, but I was definetly hot.  I felt dehydrated a little in my mouth, but overall I felt pretty good the entire run. More mental than anything when not use to this heat.  I picked it up a little toward the end and ran sub 6 pace, but I figured just running in this heat was good enough.

I'm glad I ran early because it's suppose to get up to 108 degrees today!

6/1
11 miles (7am/4pm)

Both easy recovery pace.

5/31
10 miles (10 x 100m striders)

Woke up at 7am and was out the door by 7:20.  It was about 80 degrees, but wasn't too bad.  Started out easy, but progreesed down to about 6:30 pace.  Was very nice to jump in my parents pool afterwards too.

5/30
19 miles (15am/4pm)

100 degrees in phoenix.  I was able to sleep in, so I wasn't going to run this outside in the sun.  Very lucky that my parents have a club house in their neigborhood with some nice treadmills.

I started easy at 7:30 pace but was down to 6:30 pace by mile 6.  Kept progressively getting faster until my last 3 miles were sub 6.  Last mile was 5:39 pace.  Felt pretty good the entire time. Felt easy.

5/29
12 miles (6 x 1200m @ 5K pace)

I woke up at 5:15am to get this workout done before I left for Phoenix.  I'm not a morning workout person. I can run easy pretty well, but not workouts.  It took me a long time to feel good.  My first mile in my warm up was over 8 min!

3 mile warm-up with striders
6 x 1200m @ 5K pace w/ 2 min rest
3.5+ mile general aerobic

5/28
13 miles (7am/6pm)

Another couple of easy recovery paced runs today. Another beautiful and sunny day.  Felt better in the legs then yesterday. Heading to Arizona tomorrow for a week.  Hoping my training does well in the heat.

5/27
14 miles (8am/6pm)

Beautiful day today for Memorial Day!  Hottest Day I can remember ever in Anchorage.  Both runs were done very easy at recovery pace.  Gonna do the same tomorrow too, just to make sure I'm recovered from race on Saturday.

May 20th- May 26th "Week #14"

Mileage for the Year 2013
1,481 miles

Mileage for the week 5/20- 5/26

8 miles

Super easy recovery.  Felt good to go slow today.  I know my legs needed to get moving a little after my race yesterday.  Felt good too.

5/25
18 miles (1:13:01 Half Marathon)

Ran the Trent/Waldron Half this morning.  Beautiful sunny morning.  Temps were perfect too. About 55 degrees at the start and little wind.  Felt pretty good during the race and I'm happy with the time even though I wanted to break 1:13.  I ran hard that last mile, but I'm sure somewhere in the race I could've made up at least 2 seconds.  Oh well.  Not bad after running 3 consecutive weeks of 100 miles.

3 mile warm-up
13.1 miles (1:13:01)
2 mile cool-down

5/24
6 miles

Just an easy shake out run before my race tomorrow. 1st time all year I ran without a shirt. Finally feels like summer a little here in Anchorage!

5/23
7 miles (6 x 100m striders)

Easy recovery run today w/ some striders thrown in at the end.  Keeping it easy today and tomorrow before I race a 1/2 marathon on saturday.  Pretty fit right now, so it should be a good race.  I'd like to set a PR.  Right now my best is 1:13:02, so we'll see.  Thats what I'll be going after anyway.

5/22
14 miles

Ran my Boston prep with some elmore extention.  Felt pretty good again.  Started at 7:20 pace and progressed down to 6:20 pace by mile 7.  Left achilles was aching a little, but I'll keep an eye on it.  I've got a couple of easy days before my 1/2 marathon on saturday.  One more day with students tomorrow as well. I can't wait for summer break.

5/21
10 miles (6 x 800m @ 5K Pace)

Ran to Huffman and then did 800's between Huffman and Dearmoun.  Felt pretty strong today.  Rest was 90 seconds between 800's.

5/20
11 miles (5am/6pm)

Both easy recover pace runs. Ran to Huffman and back in the afternoon.  I felt really good running today, but kept it easy.

Beautiful, sunny, and cool day.  Ran my Boston prep route with elmore extention to UAA and back.  Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 6:20 pace by mile 10.  Last couple miles were sub 6 (5:51, 5:43).  Felt really good and feeling fit.

5/18
8 miles

Woke up and snowing outside!  Easy pace on treadmill.  Enough said.

5/17
12 miles

Snowing outside pretty good.  Unbelievable!!!! Ran on treadmill. Gross.  Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 5:52 pace.  Sweat going everywhere.  Come on summer!!!

5/16
12 miles (6am/6pm)

Both were easy recovery pace.  Sometimes these runs can get boring or even a chore.  But I believe I'm a better runner for it.  Sticking to my goals.

5/15
21 miles (15am/6pm)

Ran from the Post Office to Totem in back and then another shorter out and back to get my 15.  Legs felt tired in the beginning. Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 5:47 for my last mile.  It was cold too.  Horrible spring we are having.

6 miles of recovery in the afternoon.  Legs were tired.

5/14
16 miles (5am /11pm w/ 6 x 1000m @ 5K pace)

Easy 5 miles of recovery during lunch this morning.

In the afternoon:
3 mile warm-up w/ striders
6 x 1000m @ 5K pace w/ 2 min rest
3+ miles of moderate pace

I did my 1K at 5K pace between Huffman and Dearmoun, so I had so rolling hills.  Felt pretty good to turn the legs over a little faster. I jogged slowly between the 1Ks.  Nice workout.

5/13
11 miles (5am/6pm)

Easy recovery pace runs.  Ran to Huffman and back in the afternoon.  Feeling good.

Ran my boston prep route and Elmore to tudor extention.  Started at 7:20 pace and progressed down to 5:50 pace the last couple miles.  My legs were a little heavy, but I felt really strong.  The last couple miles felt pretty easy.  Another solid week of training.

5/11
12 miles (6am/6pm)

Both runs were done at recovery pace to Huffman and back.  Felt good to be outside and feeling good!

5/10
18 miles (12am w/10K- 33:31 & 6pm)

Good workout today that I did solo.

3 mile warm-up w/ striders

3 mile cool down

Felt really good and I'm getting fitter every week.

Easy 6 miles of recovery at about 8:30pm tonight.

5/9
12 miles (6am/6pm)

Both were easy recovery pace runs.  Legs a little tired from yesterday.  Ran to Huffman and back in the afternoon.

5/8
21 miles (15am/6pm)

Had a good run on the treadmill. I would've rather ran outside (beautiful out), but I only had a small block of time because I had to ref a stupid dodge ball tournament after school.  Started at 7:30 pace and quickly progressed down to 6:30 pace by mile 8.  Then progressed down to 5:50 pace the last mile.  Felt strong. Super hot in garage though.

Easy 6 miles of recovery to Huffman and back in the evening.

5/7
10 miles (6 x 800m @ 5K pace w/ 90 sec rest)

3 mile warm-up w/ striders
6 x 800m @ 5K w/ 90 sec rest
3 mile cool down

I felt pretty good and it felt good to go harder today.  Wanted to get an easy recovery run in the afternoon but had to work at soccer game.  It's all good though.

5/6
11 miles (5am/6pm)

Easy recovery during lunch and another easy recovery run to Huffman and back in the afternoon.  Legs felt pretty good after yesterday's long run.  Nice to get them moving easy.

5/5
24 miles

I had a good run.  Started off easy at 7:25 pace and by mile 7 I was around or under 6:30 pace.  I ran my boston prep and then ran on Elmore and around by UAA and then back home.  I felt pretty good, but 24 miles is still a long way and I was glad to be done.

5/4
7 miles

Easy recovery out in Wasilla.  I was at the State Freestyle Tournament and I ran from the menard center on the 5K course. Light rain, but felt good to be outside.

5/3
16 miles (12am w/ 7 @ Tempo)/4pm)

Had a real quality tempo run today.  I felt really comfortable and strong the entire time.  I like to hit these tempo miles with no rest. I think it's better to do them this way when training for a marathon.  If I can't do it for 7 miles then I'm probably running too fast for tempo anyway.  Felt good.  I think the heat in the garage got to me more than the pace itself.  I was sweating buckets again.

3 mile warm-up w/ striders
7 miles @ tempo (5:36, 5:36, 5:33, 5:33, 5:30, 5:27, 5:27)
2 mile cool down

Just an easy 4 mile recovery in the afternoon.  Felt really good too.

5/2
11 miles (6am/5pm)

Ran an easy 6 during lunch and then another easy 5 to Huffman and back in the afternoon.  Felt really good on both runs.  Gonna run a longer tempo run tomorrow.

5/1
20 miles (15am/5pm)

Ran from Post Office to Totem and back. Then ran another 3.2 miles out and back to get 15.  Started really easy and gradually picked it up to 6 min. pace the last mile.  I really did feel good.

Easy recovery in the evening.

4/29
11 miles (5am/6pm)

Both recovery pace runs.  Ran on treadmill at school during lunch and then I ran to Huffman and back in the afternoon.  Felt good on both runs.  Sun was out, but a little windy and cold.

4/27
10 miles (Heart Run- 5K)

Ran the Heart run today.  I ran kind of like I expected.  I knew I was in pretty good shape, but since I haven't done any 5K stuff really I didn't get the turnover I wanted.  Still it was a PR of 15:59.92! A PR by .05 seconds.  I'll take it.

3 mile warm-up w/ striders
5K- 15:59.92
4 mile cool down

4/26

Real easy after school today.  Gonna run the 5K Heart Run tomorrow.  Not sure if I can run fast or not. Should be fun anyways.

4/22
11 miles (5am/6pm)

Easy recovery during lunch and another easy recovery run after school to Huffman and back.  Sunny and almost 50 degrees out. Kept it easy.  Legs felt a little tired.

17 miles (12 @ Marathon Pace)

I had a good workout today.  It was very warm in my garage and sweat was everywhere.  I had to use a towel 4-5 times to wipe myself and the screen on treadmill.  I started pretty conservative because I wanted to make sure I wasn't over my head, but I felt very very comfortable.  The heat got to me more than anything.  Good confidence boost half way through my marathon training program.  Here it is:

3 mile warm-up w/ striders
12 miles @ Marathon Pace (7 @ 5:49, 3 @ 5:46, 5:42, 5:39)
2 mile cool down

4/20
8 miles w/ 6 x 100 meter striders

Recovery pace run with some striders thrown in towards the end.  Felt pretty good. Gonna have a big workout tomorrow of 17 miles with 12 @ Marathon pace. Excited for it.  I'm in pretty good shape.

4/19

4/18
12 miles (6am/6pm)

Both super easy recovery pace again.  Feeling really good.

4/17
20 miles (15am/5pm)

Ran from the Post office to totem and back and then another shorter out and back to get 15.  I felt pretty darn good.  I through in 6 x 2min @ 5K pace with about 1:30- 1:45 rest.  I started these at mile 6.  Wanted to get some faster stuff in during my marathon buildup since I'm running the heart run next weekend.

Easy easy 5 in the evening.

4/16
13 miles (7am/5pm)

Both recovery pace again.  Ran before school this morning and felt good.  It was nice to not have to run during lunch.  Afternoon run was right after school before I picked up my daughter.  Nice to have back to back recovery days after sunday's long run.

4/15
12 miles (5am/7pm)

Both were easy recovery pace.  I was very sore when I woke up this morning.  Warmed up as the day went along though.  Felt good and in shape running!

Finally was able to get outside and run.  It was beautiful and sunny out even though it was still in upper 20's.  Ran my Boston prep route with Elmore extention. Came home at mile 16 and quickly switched shirt and light jacket and ran the last 6 to Huffman and back.  Started out at 7:20 pace and progressed down to 6:20 pace for the last 10 miles.  Felt really good too.

4/13
8 miles

Recovery miles this morning before heading out to Palmer for a wrestling tournament.  Kept it super easy, but legs a little tired from yesterday.  Gonna do my long run outside tomorrow no matter what.

4/12
12 miles (6 @ Tempo)

Great workout today.  I felt really comfortable at my Tempo pace.  I'm certain I could've kept it up for an hour.  Here it is:

3 mile warm-up w/ 5 striders
6 miles @ Tempo (5:42, 5:39, 5:36, 5:33, 5:30, 5:27)
3 mile cool down

4/11
11 miles (7am/4pm)

A couple of easy recovery runs today.  Legs a little tired and sore, but felt better as I warmed up.  Gonna run a tempo workout tomorrow.

4/10
14 miles

I had a very small window to run today and I was suppose to run 15 miles, but barely squeezed in 14.  Ran on the treadmill again. Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 5:52 pace.  I was sub 7 by mile 4 and sub 6:30 by mile 8 and sub 6:15 by mile 11.  Felt really good and strong.

4/9
13 miles (6am/7pm)

Both runs at recovery pace today.  Woke up with a stinger in my neck.  It was kind of painful during my morning run. Felt much better in the afternoon.  I believe I slept on it wrong.  Felt good running today.

4/8
12 miles (5am/7pm)

Both runs today were recovery pace. Felt good during both runs.  Snowing all day today in Anchorage.

20 miles

Getting snow this late in April is lame.  Didn't want to deal with the unplowed trails, ice, and vehicles, so I just did it all the treadmill.  It wasn't bad and I actually had a great run.  Started at 7:30 pace and progressively was down to 5:46 pace at the very end.  I was at 6:40 pace by mile 10 and 6:22 by mile 15.  Overall it was pretty effortless until the last few miles.  Solid week especially after having taken Monday off with the flu.  Hopefully no more interruptions.

4/6
8 miles

Recovery pace miles this morning.  Felt good.  Snowing ALOT in Anchorage right now.  Sucks!

4/5
16 miles (4am/ 12pm w/ 5 @ Tempo)

4 miles of recovery pace in the morning.  Legs felt a little tired in the beginning.

In the afternoon I decided to do my Tempo workout that I was suppose to do on Tuesday, but of course getting sick AGAIN, put a damper on that.  Here is what I did today:

4 mile warm-up w/ 5 striders
5 miles @ Tempo (5:42, 5:39, 5:36, 5:33, 5:33)
3 mile cool down

My legs felt the same as this morning while I was warming up, but felt better as I got closer to workout.  The tempo went okay and I was well with-in control, but I never felt great like I usually do on tempo workouts.  I think the fact that I had the flu on monday and I'm on Antibiotics had something to do with it.  Nice to get the workout in this week though.  And I do feel like I'm getting rid of this damn sickness.

4/4
11 miles (6am/5pm)

Both really easy recovery runs.  Felt good, but still wheezing in chest.

4/3
20 miles (15am/5pm)

Ran from the Post Office to Totem and back then another shorter out and back. Weather was awesome.  I felt pretty darn good, but still a little winded from this chest thing.

Easy 5 recovery in the evening.

4/2
12 miles (7am/5pm)

Felt much better then yesterday, but the chest thing still going on.  Both runs were at easy recovery pace.

4/1
Off

Broke my 56 day running streak, because I came down with the FLU!  I've been sick for basically 3 weeks. Nothing too severe, but I could never shake it.  No way I could even attempt to run today.  Temperature with  the shakes and sweats.  Finally had enough and went into the doctor and got on some antibiotics.  I believe I have an infection in my chest.  Hasn't been fun.

16 miles

Decided to get my run done before kids got up on Easter morning.  Woke up a t 6am and had a little coffee and I was running by 7am.  Started at 7:30pace and progressed down to sub 6 pace at the end.  Felt good and somewhat easy.

I had a good first cycle of this marathon build up.  The cycle is called "Endurance" and I believe I've gotten better endurance and got my body ready for the demands of higher mileage coming up.  The next cycle is called "Lactate Threshold + Endurance". So, my mileage will continue to be high and I will sprinkle in some LT runs and have a Marathon specific workout of 16 miles w/ 12 @ MP pace.  Here I go!!!!!

3/30
7.5 miles

Easy recovery pace.  Felt pretty good.  Gonna get up early tomorrow to get my long run done before kids wake up.

3/29
12.5 miles

Finally ran outside!  It was nice and warm (28 above) and the sidewalks and trails were good. A little soft on elmore and by service, but ok.  I felt pretty strong out there today too.  Good effort.

3/28
11 miles (6am/5pm)

Both super super easy.  Feeling good.

3/27
13 miles

Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 6 min. flat pace.  These medium distance runs are feeling easier and easier. I felt really good today and I recover fast.  Loving it.

3/26
9 miles (10 x 100m striders)

Still buried in snow so I ran on the treadmill again.  I wanted to get 10 miles in, but had to pick up my daughter from school.  Felt good to get some leg turnover with the striders.

3/25
11 miles (5am/6pm)

Both runs at easy recovery pace and on the treadmill. Tons of snow again last night and all day today.  Getting sick of it.  Ugh.....

We got a bunch of snow last night and I wasn't in the mood to slog through it all and get hit by a car,etc... Opted for the treadmill.  It wasn't as bad as I thought.  Had good music and water available.  Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 6:30 pace by mile 10 and then I slowly started going faster until last mile was 5:52 pace.  Felt really good.  Solid week of 100 miles.  Next week is a recovery week.

3/23
10 miles

Easy recovery pace this morning. It's snowing out so I ran it on the treadmill.  Hope it doesn't snow too much so I can run my 20 miler outside tomorrow.  Felt pretty good today.

3/22
16 miles  (4am/12pm w/ tempo)

An easy 4 miles during lunch at recovery pace.  I felt pretty good so I knew I'd have a good workout today.

After school I ran the following workout:
4 mile warm-up w/ striders
4 miles @ Tempo (5:46, 5:42, 5:39, 5:33)
4 miles @ General Aerobic (6:40 pace)

Tempo felt really good and controlled the whole time. I was thinking of adding another mile, but since I've been sick I knew better to push it.  Glad I was able to get a workout in while being sick this week.

3/21
11 miles (6am/5pm)

Both were very easy recovery.  Glad I'm waiting until tomorrow to do my tempo workout.  Felt better today though.

3/20
20 miles (15am/5pm)

I turned 39 years old today.  Still under the weather, but good enough to run.  I ran my 15 miler out on Postmark Dr. to Totem again.  Sun was out but windy and cold.  The temp was only 14 degrees and the wind made it colder for sure.  I felt okay, just tired from this cold.

5 easy recovery miles in the evening.

3/19
12 miles (8am/4pm)

Both easy recovery pace again.  I suppose to do a tempo workout, but still not feeling too good with this cold. I'll postpone it till thursday.

3/18
11 miles (5am/6pm)

Both were at easy recovery pace.  Still sick with this chest cold.  Coughing up dark green still.  Need to get a good night sleep tonight.  Recover!!!

3/17
19 miles

Beautiful and sunny day outside.  Wasn't sure if I was even going to run today, because I've been coughing and I can feel the cold in my chest some.  I didn't take off until 2pm and I decided to take it easy and see how I felt. I ended up feeling pretty good.  Started at 7:30 pace and was down to 6:30 pace towards the end.

Ran from the Post Office by the airport to totem and back 2X.  Solid week of training even though I've not been feeling great.

3/16
8 miles (Shamrock 5K)

I was the Lepercauhn again for the Skinny Raven Shamrock 5K.  I did a 1 mile warm-up and no cool down.  So about 4 miles total.  I started 5 minutes after the start again.  The course was better then last year, but I still had to walk in sections because of the crowds.  It was still a lot of fun.

4 miles super easy recovery pace in the evening.  I'm glad I did this since I didn't cool down at all after 5K.

3/15
16 miles (12am/4pm)

Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 6:15 pace on my 12 miler.  Felt so easy even though I have a cold.

Very easy recovery pace in the evening.  Gonna dress up as a Lepercaun again for the Shamrock 5K tomorrow.

3/14
10 miles (6am/4pm)

Both were super easy recovery pace.  I came down with a cold the past couple of days.  My son got it first and I've must of got it from him.  I feel okay running though.  Lots of fluids.

Was planning to drive out by postmark road to run, but we got a snow storm this morning and I wasn't gonna struggle through the snow the entire run.  So, I opted to do the whole run on the treadmill.  It's a long time to be on a treadmill, but sometimes I enjoy the warmth, shorts, and music.  Also, water is right there when I need it.  It's hot in my garage and I do sweat a lot which is good practice if I race in hot conditions like Boston last year.  Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 5:52 pace at the end. Solid week of training!!!

Super easy recover this morning.  I got another good nights sleep and that sure helps a lot.  Felt great.

3/8
12 miles

Ran on the treadmill at school this morning. With the warm winds the sidewalks would be icy!!! Started at 7:30 pace and progressed down to 5:52 my last mile.  I'm not going to lie either, it felt easy. Getting in shape!!

3/7
12 miles(7am/5pm)

A couple super easy recovery runs.  I'm trying to get my mileage back up, so I know I need to keep these runs super easy.  Felt really good though.

3/6
14 miles

Ran my Boston prep route with some on elmore too. Footing was pretty good, but lots of hard ice and some dry road.  So my ice bug days may be limited. They sure were nice for the ice, but it'll get old fast running on pure jagged ice.  Anyways pleased with my effort and its starting to get easier again.

3/5
10 miles (4 @ Tempo)

First workout of this training cycle.  It was a progressive tempo.

4 mile warm-up with some striders
4 miles @ Tempo (5:52, 5:49, 5:44, 5:39)
2 mile cool down

I felt really good on tempo. 1st mile seemed the hardest and then it felt really good.  Soon I hope to start my tempo pace around 5:39.  Good workout today.

3/4
11 miles (5am/6pm)

Both runs were at an easy recovery pace.  Felt good though.  First workout tomorrow.
